On the Surface A hotenoughtomeltice romance In The Zone Book 1 edition by Kate Willoughby Literature Fiction eBooks

This was an awesome read. It left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. I read it on two 5 hour crosscountry flights and since I hate flying, I owe the author a BIG thank you for the wonderful distraction. Ms. Willoughby hits so many marks with this book. It's funny and adorable, but also sexy and passionate. First, I know NOTHING about hockey. I seriously didn't even know what a "hat trick" was. Now, I do. In other words, this book is approachable for any reader that loves a good romance. You don't have to know anything about hockey. Ms. Willoughby's got that gift where she can write some of the sexiest, most confident heroes I've ever read, but she doesn't have to make them Neanderthal alphas to do it. They come across as real people with vulnerabilities and layers, but such sex appeal. The banter between the hero and heroine was charming...

"And you will be calling," he said. "We'll be talking a lot."
"You're so sure of yourself."
"It's called confidence, baby," he said with that infectious grin of his... and then turned, jogged to the stairs and actually slid down the inch-wide railing.

While the hero, Tim, as charming/ humorous moments like this, he is also dealing with the loss of a child and has incredible moments of pain and grief. I can't stress how awesome it is to see characters that have both light and heavy emotions co-existing within their emotional spectrum as all real people do. It makes the sexy moments, even sexier.

The heroine is a girl after my own heart. She's a feisty pediatric nurse who is completely relatable and enjoyable to read. I was rooting for both lead characters from the very beginning and I'm looking forward to devouring the next two books in this series. BTW, I should mention, I normally ONLY read paranormal and urban fantasy. Anything in the realm of contemporary romance doesn't usually "do it" for me, but I couldn't put this down.

On the Surface A hotenoughtomeltice romance In The Zone Book 1 edition by Kate Willoughby Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5

I bought On the Surface, book 1 of the In the Zone series, after reading the novella On the Brink (a book I was given an Advanced copy to read). Honestly, I loved the novella and was a little concerned that this series could never be as good. I was so wrong! On the Surface was everything I look for in a sports romance and so much more.

Tim Hollander made me swoon, he made me laugh and he made me tear up. Newly traded Tim is trying real hard to overcome his media image as a hot head. Even though, in my opinion, that fan deserved so much more than a bottle being thrown at him. So, what does he do at his first public appearance as a San Diego Barracuda? He gets in a fight with a "fan". Again, it was totally deserved. After all, he assaulted a woman that was standing in line waiting for an autograph.

Erin Collier was a great female protagonist. She was independent and strong without being abrasive. Even when she got pushed around by the guy, trying to swindle autographs just to sell them, she stood up for herself and Tim. I loved how she and Tim interacted with each other. He was thoughtful and aware of Erin's feelings and needs, without losing his tough and sexy image. I thought it was funny how even though Erin was attracted to Tim she still tried to convince herself that the Dr. O was the guy for her.

Definitely a great read! I can not wait to read more of these uber sexy hockey players and the women that are lucky enough to be the object of their love.

Thoroughly enjoyed On the Surface. If you like hot romance that's very well written and a plot that keeps you turning the pages, then don't miss this one. Kate Willoughby has become my go-to author when I want to relax at the end of the day with a good yet exciting read. The love scenes are great but not gratuitous and she really knows how to make the reader care about these characters as we learn about their triumphs and adversities on and off the ice. That's important to me. Loved it.
I purchased this series on a recommendation from a romance reading friend and I was so HAPPY I did.

Tim and Erin's story is a great start to this series. Tim is a hockey player who the story paints as being towards the end of his career and yet he reminds me of so many who have their best years then. He is having a sensational playing year.

Erin is a nurse who has a huge crush on a doctor and goes to a Barracudas signing to get their autographs in hopes of impressing him.

As love always does, it doesn't work out the way our mind wants it to, but rather our hearts.

Tim and Erin end up dating after a fiasco at the signing. You can feel how much Tim is into this, he want the forever...the problem is he wants it with no children. He's lost a child to cancer and his heart is not willing to take that chance again. Erin loves children and seemingly she accepts his decision ...at least in her head but her heart...she wants to have children and she can see the fear in Tim. It's not that he doesn't want them but more he's afraid to take the chance.

Want to know how things up for Tim and Erin? Whether they take a chance on each other and decide to have Children. One click this title and you will be forever glad you did. I highly recommend it!
