Severine was the name of the mystery teen that exists throughout the whole mystery that is not as “nonplussed” as our new author would like for the mystery and circumstances to be. Yes, the plot sounded interesting with six young college kids spending a week at a farmhouse in France as a last hoorah before they all graduate and go their separate ways. The main trouble that barely affects the group is the neighboring French girl’s disappearance at the time of the group’s initial visit . Ten years later Severine, the French beauty appears dead in a well on the property on which the classmates had vacationed. What happened to Severine? How have the lives of each classmate changed in the ten years since the 19 year old beauty, Severine has disappeared. Ten years is a long time for this close knit group who will gather in reunion to help in the investigation of the French girl’s death. Tom , Seb, and Theo were always close friends. Theo will not return because he was killed in Afghanistan. Tom was alibied with the lovely sunny Lara all week. Seb and Kate were the couple of the trip who fought and ended their relationship that fateful week. Caro the socialite and friend to both Seb ,Tom and Theo since childhood carried a secret in her heart for Seb as long as she remembers. There are plenty of people to suspect and some with motive but not any evidence has been shown to any of the group . So, this story concentrates on how each person was then and is now or maybe how each person is and has never changed. Just how well do you know your closest friends after you have grown up together and then been separated for ten years?I found the story to be a bit slow and predictable for me. I was really looking forward to a good mystery with great characters and a complicated plot with many twists and turns . the characters were not very well developed. I felt the most for Kate , who was the goodie two shoes of the bunch who constantly was haunted by the ghostly presence of Severine even after her murder was solved. Severine’s haunting really made no sense at the end of the book and you do not know anything about her to sympathize with her because you are never given any background about Severine as a character. The ending was disappointing because it was not really a logical ending. without including spoilers, I can write no more. I read the last few chapters better and I think it was because the author was trying to wrap up all the lose ends in a rushed way to finish. Please remember this is just my opinion. Someone else my find this a very well planned suspenseful novel.

The French Girl Lexie Elliott Books Reviews
I loved this book and would give it 6 stars if I could!! It was quite different from anything I have read recently and is the one book I have read this year that will stand out in my memory. The angle that I enjoyed most was the fact that the dead French Girl seemed to 'hang around' almost ghost-like, and play on the main character's conscience. This added a delicious twist to the tale.
FIve friends from a decade ago during a holiday week at a French farmhouse are brought together for an investigation of the murder of a French girl named Severine. The body was found buried in a well and the French investigator comes to London. The author does a good job of defining each person and solving the murder at the end of the novel.
They were six university students from Oxford–friends and sometimes more than friends–spending an idyllic week together in a French farmhouse. It was supposed to be the perfect summer getaway…until they met Severine, the girl next door.
For Kate Channing, Severine was an unwelcome presence, her inscrutable beauty undermining the close-knit group’s loyalties amid the already simmering tensions. And after a huge altercation on the last night of the holiday, Kate knew nothing would ever be the same. There are some things you can’t forgive. And there are some people you can’t forget…like Severine, who was never seen again.
Now, a decade later, the case is reopened when Severine’s body is found in the well behind the farmhouse. Questioned along with her friends, Kate stands to lose everything she’s worked so hard to achieve as suspicion mounts around her. Desperate to resolve her own shifting memories and fearful she will be forever bound to the woman whose presence still haunts her, Kate finds herself buried under layers of deception with no one to set her free…
My Thoughts In Kate’s first person voice, we follow the story in The French Girl. A mystery, possibly a murder, and suspicion that turns friends against one another as the investigator zeroes in on them all. Set in London, the story takes us to the French countryside as the investigator continues his search for a killer.
Kate is literally haunted by Severine, seeing her in various poses as she goes through her days and nights. Do the hauntings hint that she knows more than she thinks? Can she figure out the truth of what happened? Or will she finally realize that her memories have been hidden from her for a reason?
There were many characters to loathe, like Caro, whose presence in Kate’s life these days is an annoying and disturbing reminder of those feelings.
What about Tom, who seems to know more than he is letting on? And then there is Lara, her best friend, who might be hiding something, too.
And, years after their stunning break-up, Kate has to look again at her relationship with Seb…wondering if there are dark secrets she hadn’t previously considered.
I figured out the perpetrator early on, but couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out. I couldn’t stop turning pages, and I enjoyed how Kate’s world seemed to right itself in the end. 4.5 stars.
Sorry I wasted time and money. So contrived. Everything neatly tied up. The ghosts who haunt. No evidence just rambling conjecture.
I truly liked this book. I liked the characters and the characterizations. I liked the plot and I liked the ending, even though I would have probably written a different ending myself.
I read one review wherein the reviewer said he/she knew who the murderer was from the beginning. I can't say that I was anywhere close to that clever. I kept changing my mind about who could've possibly done it and only figured it out when it was pretty apparent to all.
The ending didn't strike me as paranormal. I read a few reviews that seemed to find that portion of the ending disconcerting. I found it very easy to have explanations other than a paranormal experience or occurrence. If you enjoy a well-written book you will enjoy reading this book. The mystery and trying to figure out "who done it" is fun too. I just plain enjoyed reading this book. It was a well-written novel and had a nice even pace.
