Traveling Junkie How to Travel for Vacation on a Budget eBook Howie Junkie

This mini-book points out that vacations can be a great time to get away and see new things but there is also a lot of stress involved in organizing everything. This guide reminds you of everything you need to know to have your vacation go over without a hitch. It reviews key elements such as: time, type of experience, booking a flight, accommodations, transportation options, activities, and especially budget. The chapters are extremely short and get right to the point. It reads like a 5-minute powerpoint presentation but it presents key questions that you need to ask yourself so you can create a realistic travel plan.

The most useful parts are the websites it mentions to use to book flights. I have used several of those mentioned but there are a few I will look at next time I decide to fly international. It also mentions clearing cookies in between searches. So many people don’t do this and miss out when flights suddenly are all the same prices on every website. Chapter 3 includes very helpful information about turning a layover into a “stayover” where you get out and see the city you are staying in. Best of all there are specific prices that specific airlines charge for a tourist package. Chapter 5 is also great for remembering all the different ways to travel and save money depending on what you want to do. Overall a strong guide for planning your vacation. I would say these are things everyone should know about before they purchase their tickets or make accommodations.

Howie highlights the "to-do-task" that people should go through while planning a vacation. These 7 steps are focusing on limiting the stress even I've gone through! Planning the activities, booking a perfect flight, setting the budget, etc. When we are on vacation, WE ARE ON VACATION! Worst thing is to want relax time, and end up having to be stressed out during the planning stage.

The foundation of planning is first knowing how much time do you have to escape to a place where you can enjoy some quality time off away from your normal busy schedule. The author highlights the thought of understanding what kind of vacation experience you want. This is a great tip, because you can settle for a "ok" experience or you can be creative and not have an "meh" experience. To do this, Howie suggests you take note on the desires and interests that trigger your happy emotions. Is it fun times in Vegas or lying on a beach? Once you finalize the ideal place the next steps are finding a place to sleep, how to get around once arriving, and deciding fun activities to experience.

What's the next step? Budget, budget, budget!! Have you ever experience going on vacation and something great there just didn't fit your budget? It happens, a concert, show, new upscale restaurant you never been to, etc. The author explains in detail tips on taking trips to shorter distances, taking direct flights, and finding hotels that cater to families or party-type people. If you want to sleep well, the worst hotel to be is at one where the spring break party crowd goes.

This leads into the “what kind of experience do you have to have?” phase. Understanding the kind of person you are will help in how you will go on vacation. Are you chill and reserved? Are you adventurous? Well again the author points out some clues to what kind of places you like according to a multiple question quiz. This survey is similar to the evaluation surveys you’d see in self-improvement or customer service reviews. That tool is great because sometimes you need to discover yourself more by evaluating what you enjoy doing on vacation. Straight to the point, this helps identify what you should pursue and not during planning the experience you want to have.

The planning phase in this author’s book is started with a list of sites to go through that will help you find cheap flights. Then tips on paying attention to extra fees that pop-up! So GMBB (getting the most band for your buck) is the first step in covering yourself and making sure you are not spending too much on flight tickets. While searching for these awesome ticket deals that make you smile when you found the perfect airline, can take some time. The next tip is to clear cookies and refresh, because like you SOMEBODY else is planning to go on vacation as well and some websites will increase prices after identical searches are made. No not the mom’s homemade cookies, the cookies in your internet browser. Victor will explain, just read his book!

Fast forwarding to accommodations, Howie gives some more sites to checkout but he doesn’t just list them and moves on leaving you hanging. He goes in detail explaining why they are good to check out and for what purposes. Once finding the perfect hotel that meets your needs, the author helps you explore transportation pros and cons which is useful information. Bicycle obviously gives a good workout, but can also be dangerous if in an unfamiliar place. Renting a car gives the vacationer freedom, but can be expensive.

Next we get into the activities and finalizing the budget. My favorite part was mapping your location spots of activities you want to experience. This gives you more control how you will get there, how long you will be there, and crossing out your list as you complete one by one. There are places where you can get discounts and also free to the public. This allows more room in the budget to experience the more expensive activities. Howie stresses that you do your research! Once the author gives tips in that area he gives a great tip on an app you can download that will help you stay on track with your set budget, which is cleaver. Find that app in the book, I won’t give the good stuff away ;)

Now the favorite part, taking action on your dream vacation! In closing the author wraps up with a bow on top the final pieces to the puzzle. For those wanting to see the world or just enjoy a simple getaway, these are some thoughtful tips that will inspire you to take action and stop thinking about vacation. “Explore, live and experience,” is what Victor says and I believe he did just that with this book. I enjoyed this writing and will share with my friends and family. We all love to go on vacation, but are we doing so and getting the most value out of it? Or are we just going on a typical getaway not really putting thought into planning a great experience. Looking to be inspired with ideas to take your trip planning to a smart intelligent planning full of great experiences? I recommend you read Howie’s honest approach in guiding the reader how to experience a well deserved vacation, the smart way.
